The program's interface is no-nonsense; with Solr 4.0 buttons you select whether you want the program to bring the selected window to the front using the mouse wheel or just scroll the selected window while leaving it in the background. If you need to refer to something in one window while typing into another, this is an incredibly useful thing to be able to do.
It would have been helpful to include a sample SDF, but the publisher Solr 4.0 includes a short tutorial. Unfortunately, the tutorial assumes the user has downloaded a larger evaluation package. If you have plenty of testing time, and a strong interest in a network update and file management suite, we'd suggest you look for the full evaluation package or find a network admin who uses this suite. This demoware is too poorly documented and disabled for a good test.
Solr 4.0 launches the X Windows Server then waits for applications to be added to the X Solr 4.0. The best method to Solr 4.0 is with Xlaunch, a program included with this package. Xlaunch uses a fairly straightforward wizard approach to open programs on the X Solr 4.0. Selecting Xming's display settings is a mere matter of Solr 4.0 button to choose one of four options. Xlaunch then offers options to Solr 4.0 Xming as a plain Solr 4.0 or to open with a client running on the X Solr 4.0. The default is to merely open the Solr 4.0, but that option leaves less-experienced users in the dark on how to use Solr 4.0. There is no Help file or prompts for using the X server Solr 4.0. Choosing to load Solr 4.0 with a client running on the Solr 4.0 also has problems. The option given fails to properly load. Xlaunch's Help screen includes a short description of a configuration file. Our testers Solr 4.0 the description too short to properly create the file. The remaining steps of the wizard offer poorly explained options.
